PennDOT Approves J-J Hooks MASH Barrier for Bridge Applications

In late 2020, PennDOT approved J-J Hooks MASH TL3 temporary barrier for bolted applications on bridges and structures. The tested deflections, when bolted to concrete, were 5.9-inches. J-J Hooks is now approved as an alternate to PennDot’s standard drawing BC-719M, structure-mounted temporary concrete barrier.

PennDOT’s BC-719M is a 14-foot long, F-shape barrier with two different pocket designs, depending upon the required bolt spacing. Bolts can be specified at 1-foot, 2-foot or 4-foot intervals, based upon traffic lane widths and vehicle speeds. The J-J Hooks barrier is a 12-foot long, F-shape barrier requiring only two bolts.
