$70 Billion Texas Highway Infrastructure Spending Plan bodes well for J-J Hooks Barrier sales

Recently, the Texas Transportation Commission approved a 10-year Unified Transportation Program containing $70 billion worth of projects to help Texas DOT meet the state’s growing transportation demands. The plan is the largest of its kind in the agency’s history, addressing capacity, maintenance and safety needs around state. “The actions today by the Texas Transportation Commission represent a historic investment in our state’s infrastructure,” Governor Greg Abbott said. “The plan presented by the commission will allow Texas roads to keep pace with our population growth, provide much-needed congestion relief for working Texans and put the Lone Star State well on its way towards having a first-in-class highway system for decades to come.”

Texas DOT investments in highway infrastructure projects around major cities in eastern Texas and their associated tollways have extensively used J-J Hooks precast concrete highway safety barrier to protect motorists and contractor personnel in construction zones.

One project example is an $855 million design-build contract awarded to Grand Parkway Infrastructure (joint venture among Ferrovial Agroman, Webber, & Granite Construction) to develop, design, construct and maintain approximately 44 miles of SH-99/Grand Parkway Segments H, I-1 and I-2 in Chambers, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties. SH-99/Grand Parkway is the third beltway loop and considered the outer loop of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolis.

Webber are heavy highway contractors with major contracts with TxDOT. Tricon in Houston has supplied MSE retaining wall systems, pre-fabricated precast bridge systems and a variety of other precast highway products all supported by an extensive in-house engineering capability.

J-J Hooks is the industry’s most successful connection design with well over 12 million linear feet provided to highway construction projects in North America and abroad. J-J Hooks freestanding, pin-down and bolt-down designs have been MASH TL3 and NCHRP350 TL3 tested and are available from nearly 40 local producers.
